Each year the National Merit® Scholarship program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
This year we are proud to recognize University Laboratory School Senior Kian Sanchez, who is among a select group of 16,000 high achieving high school students, representing less than 1% of U.S. seniors from the nation’s high schools as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Kian Sanchez’s distinguished performance on the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) qualified him as a Semifinalist in the 2025 National Merit® Scholarship Program. We are extremely proud of Kian’s achievement on this very rigorous national test.
Kian Sanchez has an opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships that will be offered next spring. To become a finalist, a semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, earn SAT scores that confirm the performance on the qualifying test, and submit a detailed application including an essay and information about school and community activities. Finalists will be notified February; scholarship winners chosen from among the finalists will be announced throughout the spring and summer.
Best wishes to Kian as he continues in the 2025 National Merit® Scholarship Program!
