Congratulations to Abigail B. who has been selected to represent the University Laboratory School as our 2019 Islander Scholar.
The Islander Scholars program honors public high school juniors who exemplify the values that make Hawaiʻi unique. The program connects a select group of students to each other, forming a cohort of young leaders who will help Hawai‘i thrive in the future.
Islander Scholars is a statewide, one of a kind award for one junior per participating high school.
Islander Scholars are students who share their gifts with humility, give generously to others, take responsibility for their families and communities, stand strong in the face of challenges, and cherish our islands with love and respect. They are the current and future leaders of Hawaiʻi.
Abby was chosen because her values and actions represent the very best of Hawaii.
As part of the reward, Abby will join 40 other Islander Scholars across the state for a unique three-day camp. They will get to meet other distinguished students and leaders, go on hands-on excursions together, learn about the importance of place and kuleana, and have an unforgettable weekend of fun and fellowship.
Islander Scholars is led by Islander Institute in partnership with Mālama Learning Center and a team of individuals who share a deep commitment to Hawaiʻi.
