Congratulations to our student scientists for competing against the top projects at the Hawai‘i State Science & Engineering Fair and coming back to the University Laboratory School with awards!  The following is the list of awards earned by each student scientist!

• Top 12 in Junior Division
• 1st place – Plant Science, Junior Division
• Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge Nominee (Top 18)

💅 Amelia S. (10) “Studying the Psychology of Onychophagia and Developing a Strategy for Biting Prevention and Strengthening”
• 2025 CTAHR Alumni Association & Friends Excellence in Research Award ($350)
• Hawaiʻi Dental Service Senior Research Award ($500)

🌊 Dava W. (11) “The Ecological Mysteries of Opheodesoma spectabilis: Seasonal Trends, Habitat Preferences and Climate Responses”
• 3rd place – Earth and Environmental Sciences, Senior Division

🪸 Natalie C. (11) “Use of eDNA for Identifying Native and Invasive Algae at the Intertidal Benches in Hawaiʻi”
• 3rd place – Plant Sciences, Senior Division

🧫 Kian S. (12) “Exploring Marine-Derived Extracts as Ethical, Sustainable, and Cost-Effective Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) Substitutes in Cell Culture”
• 2nd Place Overall in State ($300)
• Best Public School Project
• Best in Category 1st place for Cellular and Molecular Biology Senior Division
• McInerny Foundation Award ($1,000)
