The students of Ms. Cruz’s Global Leadership class have been hard at work this year planning community service projects, attending youth conferences and participating in community events. For the second time this school year they were awarded a mini-grant from Blue Zones Hawai‘i to help support their projects that include providing care packages and supplies to senior citizens, first responders, ULS teachers and staff and other community outreach programs. Recently, three ULS students co-presented with Ms. Cruz at an event for pre-service teachers at UH Hilo. The students spoke to pre-service teachers about student perspective and provided honest views on education. Our students learned a lot about what it takes to be a teacher in the 21st century. Lastly, at the end of February, another group of ULS students will be attending the Diversity Equity and Inclusion conference as part of their fellows program. We are continuously amazed by all of their efforts!
