The Nishinippon Junior College High School from Yame City, Japan made their annual school trip to Honolulu, Hawaii to visit their sister school, the University Laboratory School.
On Monday, November 27, 2017, the ULS Seniors and Japanese Language Students in Grade 10 & 11 welcomed the Nishinippon Students with exchange performances by the ULS Hula & Chant Class & Japanese Kimono Class. In exchange, Nishinippon performed a dance called the, “Yosakoi Sooran-bushi” and also gave an exciting Judo presentation that left the audience in delight.
The performances were followed by the exchange of conversation between students from each school. Students played games from each cultures and even tried candy from both Japan and Hawaii. Meanwhile in the Bandroom, Hula and Chant students gave Hula lessons to all visiting guests.
University Laboratory School and Nishinippon Junior College High School has a long and enriching sister school relationship since 1982. For 35 years, we have built on the traditions of excellence, where thousands of students, teachers and administrators of both schools have shared many rewarding educational experiences that have deepened our understanding of international ties and connections, as well as deepened the bonds of our friendship.
