On December 2 to 9, 2018, the University Laboratory School hosted students from our Japanese sister school Nishi-Nippon Junior College-High School – Yame-City, Fukuoka, Japan.
Through this homestay program, we continue our connection with the students, people and culture of Japan and Nishi-Nippon High School. The students shared their language and culture exchange, build life-long international friendships, taught each other about their own country’s values, and make a difference in each others lives.
Mahalo to the ULS Host families for providing a safe and welcoming home. Without your support, this exchange program between the University Laboratory School and Nishi-Nippon High School would not have been successful. Your family helped the visiting student to learn English and experience “real life” in Hawai‘i. We believe this experience provided a first-hand experience of the cultural and language differences between Japan and Hawaii. It also provided an opportunity to establish life-long friendships while teaching each other about their own country’s values, which fostered a sense of international camaraderie.
